Researching a Company

Need to check a company out here are some great resources:

•The Better Business Bureau http://www.bbb.org/
•Web Assured ("Watch List" to see complaints on companies) http://www.webassured.com/
•The Federal Trade Commission's Consumer Response Center http://www.ftc.gov/
•Scambusters - newsletter you can join too http://www.scambusters.com/
•The National Fraud Information Center http://www.fraud.org/

To investigate a business:

#1 do a search at http://www.bbb.org

#2 get their internet reg. info
http://www.netsol.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois

#3 goto google http://www.google.com
and search using their business name
and the word scam or rip off with it
and see what comes up.

#4 go to www.ripoffreport.com

Also search the name of the company followed by one of the following. I am going to use West as an example.
Ex West Independent contractors
West forums
West home based workers
of type " Does anyone work for West " in google engine
Also type " West in the news"
Just replace west with whatever company name you need to search.

Take the business number and search in search engine to see what comes up
Type in the owners name in search engines with the company
Try to get input from forums first if possible
If company is brand new avoid giving out your ss# unless you know you did detailed background check on the company.

can some tell me if they heard of this company Remington Recruitment Staffing Services. you have to take a typing test and they are asking for 11.95. I know when they ask for money its a no no. I check them out on "RIPOFF REPORT" they did show up on there. can some email me and let me know. thank you much.

Hi,

If you want to research a company, first do some basic search for the threads pointing that company is a scam. Write in google search engine - "company's name+scam" . See tha results. This should be your first step in researching a company's profile
